The government has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young entrepreneurs through increased access to financing and a more supportive business environment, as leaders engaged youth during the Meru County Youth Engagement Forum.

Speaking at the forum, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development Geoffrey Ruku said the younger generation still remain a strong factor that can’t be easily knocked down by problems in life, besides being creative and energetic, youths are also a major reason why economic revitalization and community rejuvenation are happening in so many parts of the country.

“Our young people are ambitious, innovative and resilient in building and revitalising the potential of our communities and the nation.” he remarked

The engagement comes days after the government disbursed over KSh3 billion through the NYOTA Project a move aimed at expanding youth entrepreneurship and creating employment opportunities.

This initiative, which supports the operation of young people businesses, serves to further youth entrepreneurship and employment at the same time.

The government also highlighted directives issued by President William Samoei Ruto, asking that the national youth enterprise development fund, The Women’s Enterprise Fund, The Uwezo fund and Kenya Industrial Estates develop financial products for youth businesses through which support would keep growing.

In addition, county governments have been invited to reduce the business licensing fees for young people for two years, reducing the cost of starting and growing enterprises.

In opinion, Ruku said that by making young people’s access to affordable finance possible together with implementing the policies that support young business, people will result in an increase in investment, innovation  and development of the young’s businesses.
