More than 400 fundis, plumbers and contractors have received National Construction Authority (NCA) technical certification following a training forum organised by BioTank Africa in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
The Fundi Forum, held on August 28, marked the expansion of BioTank Africa’s county-by-county training initiative aimed at equipping construction artisans across Kenya with skills in modern, sustainable biodigester and wastewater technologies.
BioTank Africa Founder and General Manager Edwin Kirugo said artisans play a critical role in ensuring wastewater systems are properly installed and meet safety and environmental standards.
He noted that with limited municipal sewer coverage in Kenya, onsite sanitation remains a key solution for many households and property developments.
The training included practical sessions on three-chamber biodigester installation, maintenance and site safety, alongside business clinics focused on formalising enterprises and improving client acquisition.
Participants were also issued official NCA accreditation certificates as part of efforts to formalise technical skills in the construction sector.
Real Building Workers Association of Kenya President James Karatu urged artisans to comply with licensing requirements, describing fundis as important agents of accountability and quality standards.
The forum also highlighted the growing participation of women in traditionally male-dominated trades, with young plumber Nellygrace Korika among those attending.
BioTank Africa said the initiative will expand to other counties as the company builds a nationwide network of trained and accredited artisans.
