Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has said the Government is actively engaging schools that received lower-than-expected capitation to resolve the issue, following a glitch in the disbursement process.

Speaking during the inaugural graduation ceremony at Riragia Technical and Vocational College (TVC) in Marani Sub-County, Kisii County, CS Ogamba acknowledged that some institutions had reported discrepancies in the funds received, but assured stakeholders that the Ministry of Education was in contact with the affected schools to correct the errors.

“This year marked the first time the government released second term capitation as early as May, unlike previous years when the funds came in much later,” noted the CS, adding that the issue may have stemmed from an administrative error during the early disbursement.

Ogamba further reassured parents and guardians that examination fees for learners would continue to be fully covered by the government, emphasizing the State’s commitment to easing the financial burden on households.

He revealed that the government had released KSh 21 billion in capitation funds last month, disbursed to public schools in three phases: 50 percent in the first term, 30 percent in the second, and the remaining 20 percent in the third term.

The CS’s remarks come amid rising concern from school heads and parents over funding shortfalls in some public institutions.
