Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has hit back at Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of dishonesty regarding his criticism of the agreement between President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Musyoka, speaking at the Christian Foundation Fellowship Church in Nairobi, condemned the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Raila and Ruto, claiming that the deal represented a betrayal of Kenyans who lost their lives during the 2023 and 2024 protests over issues such as the high cost of living, oppressive taxes, and governance problems.
In response, Nyong’o released a statement saying that Musyoka had been meeting with various individuals, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, without consulting others within his own camp.
“In the meantime, Kalonzo has been meeting with all kinds of people, including Rigathi Gachagua, without consulting us at all. But we never complained. We took it as his democratic right to do so,” Nyong’o said.

He emphasized that Musyoka was free to engage with both President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga for the benefit of the country’s future.
Earlier, Musyoka had criticized the ODM-UDA agreement, arguing that it signified Raila Odinga’s betrayal of Azimio, a view Nyong’o disagreed with.
Nyong’o argued that the pact between ODM and UDA was aimed at strengthening Kenya’s democratic culture and fostering national unity. He also extended an olive branch to Musyoka, inviting him to continue engaging with both Ruto and Odinga for the country’s collective future.
The MoU, which was signed in Nairobi last Friday, has sparked political controversy, with some Azimio leaders expressing dissatisfaction over what they see as the sidelining of the coalition.

There are growing calls from certain leaders within the broader government to bring Kalonzo into the fold.
