Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has addressed his absence from the April 29, 2025, opposition leaders’ meeting in Nairobi, clarifying that pre-existing commitments in his county kept him away.
Natembeya was conspicuously missing from the meeting that was attended by the former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua, Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, among others.
However, speaking to this publication, the governor emphasized unwavering support for opposition resolutions aligned with public welfare, stating,
“Our responsibility as leaders goes beyond political affiliations… If an idea benefits the people, it deserves our full support”.
Natembeya cited prior engagements in Trans Nzoia, including a confirmed meeting with the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).
Despite self-declaring as the “official opposition leader,” he endorsed the meeting’s purpose to address national challenges, urging Kenyans to avoid speculation about his absence.
He reaffirmed backing for opposition initiatives that prioritize public welfare, reflecting his broader critique of the President William Ruto-Raila Odinga alliance and advocacy for systemic reforms.
