The Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe was the scene of celebration and pride as the Deputy Commander of the base, Colonel Wilberforce Murimi, presided over the graduation ceremony for the Basic Rangers Course 18/25 for the financial year 2024/25.
The rigorous three-month course, renowned for its demanding physical and mental challenges, is designed to equip military personnel with specialized skills in tactical operations, leadership, and advanced combat.
Training modules included close quarter battle drills, tactical movement, high-altitude exercises, and command development, ensuring participants are prepared for elite missions.
This year’s cohort drew officers from across the Kenya Defence Forces — the Kenya Navy, Kenya Army, and Kenya Air Force — underlining the inter-service collaboration and commitment to enhancing operational effectiveness, interoperability, and shared values among the armed forces.
In his keynote address, Colonel Murimi lauded the graduates for their unwavering dedication, endurance, and strength throughout the intensive training.
“This journey has not been easy. You have been tested physically, mentally, and morally,” he said. “You have endured exhaustion, faced uncertainty, and confronted fear, yet you never wavered. You have upheld the core values that define a ranger: courage, discipline, loyalty, and selfless service, and have come out better. Congratulations.”
The event was attended by senior officers including the Chief Instructor at the Kenya Naval Training College, Lieutenant Colonel Ernest Ndirangu, as well as fellow service members and instructors who supported the course.
The graduation marked a significant milestone in the development of elite forces within the Kenya Defence Forces, reinforcing the country’s commitment to building a versatile, disciplined, and mission-ready military.
