Linda Mama Expanded: State Extends Maternal Care to Protect Families and Mothers

The government has expanded the Linda Mama program under the Social Health Authority (SHA), offering families and mothers wider healthcare protection prior to, during, and after delivery.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale made the announcement in Kajiado County where he was chairing the commissioning of the Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sumait Complex and the groundbreaking of the School of Engineering Phase III at Umma University.

Antenatal and postnatal care, normal and Caesarean deliveries, newborn care, and standard services such as Anti-D serum are now part of Linda Mama under the new SHA system.

The advantages have not been removed they have been extended to ensure that mothers and families get the care they deserve throughout the childbirth process. So far, 627,155 mothers, including more than 41,000 teen mothers, have gained access to maternal and newborn health care with financial protection,” CS Duale said.

In Kajiado alone, more than 470,000 residents are enrolled under SHA, a number out of the 26.5 million Kenyans enrolled countrywide. The reforms aim to make quality health care more available, especially at the grassroots level, to ensure that no family is left behind.

While touring the new university facilities, CS Duale noted that the nursing skills laboratory will provide hands-on training to students, boosting their competence and Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, having realized their central role in the community and the need for equality in health and education.

The event, which was graced by President William Ruto, was hosted by Umma University Vice Chancellor Dr. Halima Abdullahi, in conjunction with Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, Chancellor Dr. Abass Gullet, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muhailan of the Direct Aid Society (DAS), Education CS Julius Migos, and other high-ranking officials.

This success illustrates the power of partnerships, through the steadfast backing of the Government of Kuwait through DAS, and is steady progress in education, health, and community development under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
