The Ministry of Health is exploring a partnership with Softcare Group to support maternal and newborn health, with a focus on vulnerable mothers and adolescent girls.
Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga held discussions with Softcare Group Country Managing Director Tom Li on Thursday, September 3, on how the two sides can work together under the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) campaign.
The proposed partnership will focus on improving health awareness and knowledge among communities while also supporting the dignity of mothers, newborns and adolescent girls who face challenges accessing basic health needs.
During the meeting, Oluga outlined some of the maternal health measures being implemented by the Ministry through the EWENE campaign. The programme also involves working with health facilities and communities to improve maternal and newborn health across the country.
The PS said partnerships should look beyond treatment and also address the wider health and dignity needs of mothers and young girls, especially those from vulnerable communities.
Oluga welcomed Softcare Group’s participation in upcoming EWENE field activities and awareness campaigns. The company is expected to support the initiatives through the provision of sanitary pads and diapers.
The Ministry said the proposed partnership would help bring different efforts on maternal, newborn and adolescent health together while supporting the country’s push towards Universal Health Coverage.
