The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has recalled S-Prazo (Esomeprazole Magnesium Delayed-Release Capsules 40mg) Batch No. SPZ-302 from the market.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 20, the board said the recall was necessitated following a market complaint regarding a mix-up of blister strips.

In the mix-up, some boxes contained two different blister strips, S-Prazo Capsules and Donystatin tablets, within the same outer carton.

Consequently, the board asked all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals and members of the public to stop further distribution, sale, issuing or use of the drug.

Those already in possession of the drug were urged to return it to their nearest healthcare facility or respective suppliers.

"The board remains committed to protecting the health of the public and encourages the public to promptly report any suspected cases of substandard medicines or adverse drug reactions," the board further said in the statement.

S-Prazo is manufactured by Laborate Pharmaceutical India Limited.

It is used to treat heartburn and certain other conditions caused by too much acid in the stomach.

It also helps in the treatment of stomach ulcers.
