Police officers in Vihiga Sub-County have arrested a suspected drug peddler after a successful operation led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of narcotics from his premises.

According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect was found in possession of three kilograms of cannabis sativa, 72 rolls of the same drug, and an additional kilogram of tobacco.

The arrest was made on June 17, 2025, following a targeted crackdown aimed at dismantling drug networks in the region.

Officers said the illicit substances were hidden in nylon sacks and stashed in a plastic container, suggesting deliberate concealment to avoid detection. The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court.

The police affirmed that the operation is part of broader efforts to combat the spread of narcotics and protect communities from the harmful impact of drug abuse.

They urged the public to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious or drug-related activities.“The National Police Service remains committed to addressing the threat posed by drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens,” the statement read.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to trace the source and possible distribution links tied to the suspect.
