Isiolo Governor Ibrahim Abdi Hassan, popularly known as Guyo, is facing arrest after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ordered the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take him and seven others into custody over allegations of kidnapping and robbery with violence.
In a statement released on Friday, the DPP said the decision came after reviewing an inquiry file submitted by the DCI’s Kiyumbi office through the ODPP Machakos County, before it was forwarded to headquarters in Nairobi because of the matter’s high public interest.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place at Outbark Hotel in Maanzoni, Machakos County, where former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health, Abdirahaman Mohamed, was meeting with 15 Members of the County Assembly aligned with the Governor’s impeachment faction.
It is alleged that Governor Guyo, together with his supporters, stormed the venue and, acting on his instructions, attacked Abdirahaman, forcibly disarmed him, and bundled him into a vehicle.
The DPP said Abdirahaman was later taken to the Ruai Sewage area, where he was threatened, blindfolded, beaten, and eventually abandoned.
During the ordeal, he reportedly lost a licensed Glock pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition, an iPhone 16, Ksh70,000 in cash, and other personal items.
CCTV footage from the hotel is said to have placed Governor Guyo at the scene, alongside Abdullahi Jaldesa Banticah, Dade Boru, Abdirashid Ali Diba (alias Ngila), Abdinur Dima Jiilo, Ahmed Duale, Josephat Mwangi Komu, and Yusuf Maina.
The DPP has now directed that all eight suspects be arraigned to face charges of kidnapping with intent to cause grievous harm and robbery with violence.
