An engineer at the Ministry of Transport has been charged with forging an official letter purportedly authorised by then–Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
Richard Zenda Kirui Bongei appeared before the Milimani Law Courts to face four counts: forgery, making a document without authority, uttering a false document, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
According to the charge sheet, Bongei allegedly forged a letter referenced 2010002101/35, dated May 6, 2024, and addressed to the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission.
The document, titled “Renewal of Local Agreement Terms,” was made to appear as though it had been written and signed by CS Murkomen.
Court records show that the letter was used to facilitate the renewal of an agreement between the ministry and a pilot.
The alleged forgery was uncovered during a labour court case filed by the pilot.
In a second count, Bongei is accused of preparing the document without authority on the same date. Through his lawyer, he asked for leniency, claiming the letter had been forwarded to him via phone by a third party—an issue he says is under investigation.
The magistrate released him on a Ksh 300,000 bond or a Ksh 150,000 cash bail.
