The government has unveiled plans to construct a new stadium in Taita Taveta county as President William Ruto steps up efforts to improve sports facilities in the country.

The president recently announced the construction of multiple stadiums across the country as the country prepares to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Talanta Stadium along Ngong Road is nearing completion while Kasarani and Nyayo will be closed to undergo intense renovations.

The new stadium will be built in Voi and will accommodate 10,000 fans in plans revealed by the Principal Secretary, Department of Defence, Patrick Mariru. Like many facilities in the country, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will oversee construction and is expected to be completed within nine months.

“The stadium, the first of its kind in the county, will be built to both FIFA and CAF standards and will support football, athletics, and a host of other sports disciplines. The Voi Stadium is expected to be completed within nine months and will contribute significantly to sports and talent development in the region.”

President Ruto recently commissioned Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui and launched the construction of another stadium in Wajir.
