A five-member armed gang that had terrorized Nakuru County has been arrested in a joint police operation, with detectives recovering the AK-47 rifle used in a series of deadly attacks.

The suspects were captured in coordinated raids by DCI’s Operation Action Team, Crime Research Bureau, and Nakuru police. Acting on intelligence, officers later recovered the rifle serial number 18916 hidden in dry grass in Rhoda, Nakuru.

The gang is linked to a July 1 ambush that left one police officer dead and two others injured, as well as a brutal robbery in Soilo where a 24-year-old shopkeeper was hacked with machetes, robbed, and shot dead.

The suspects William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and Peter Chacha will be arraigned on Tuesday, June 3.

DCI has reassured residents that anti-robbery teams are actively pursuing remaining armed gangs to restore safety in Nakuru and beyond.
