Gor Mahia triumphed 1-0 over KCB FC in a tense FKF Premier League clash at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos today.
The match was originally scheduled for yesterday but had to be postponed due to heavy rainfall, which left the pitch unplayable.
Austine Odhiambo’s superb first-half free-kick proved to be the difference, securing Gor Mahia a hard-earned victory.
KCB came close to taking the lead early in the fourth minute when Francis Kahiro found himself unmarked in the box but wasted the opportunity, sending his header over the bar.
Following that miss, Gor Mahia had to make an early substitution after defender Ken Onyango collided with goalkeeper Gad Mathews.
Onyango received extended medical attention before being replaced by Geoffrey Ochieng.
Gor Mahia nearly broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, but Samuel Onyango failed to convert a prime chance inside the box.
The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Odhiambo’s free-kick, assisted by Joshua Onyango’s clever dummy, flew past KCB goalkeeper Bonphas Munyasa to give Gor Mahia the lead.
With the win, Gor Mahia with 46 points is in third place in the standings, just three points behind leaders Kenya Police and two points behind second-place Tusker FC, with a game in hand.
KCB remains in fifth place with 40 points, trailing Shabana FC.
