National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula

National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula has blasted the opposition leaders over tribalism and regionalism ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during the burial of the mother of Kilifi North MP Hon. Owen Baya Yaa, in Kilifi, Wetangula described the leaders as greedy and dangerous insisting they must be stopped.

The Speaker warned that politics driven by some members of the opposition, who are driven by selfish interests’ risk tearing the country apart and “are trying to divide Kenyans along tribal and regional lines ahead of the 2027 elections.”

“Drawing from Shaaban Bin Robert’s Kusadikika, I reminded Kenyans that we must act before a crisis not after it happens.” The former Bungoma Senator said on Monday.

“If we wait to be bitten by a snake before looking for a stick, we will have already failed our country. I urged all leaders to reject tribal discrimination and to remember that Kenya belongs to every citizen.” He added.

His sentiments come barely a day after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua launched a scathing attack on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), linking the agency and President William Ruto to the controversial multi-billion fuel scandal.

Speaking during an Easter Sunday service in Gatundu, Gachagua claimed that the KSh4.8 billion fuel saga was a cover-up.

He alleged that top government officials were being targeted for allegedly going against powerful interests within the State.

He further sensationally claimed that about KSh500 million recovered from suspects was handed over to the President, remarks that have since sparked sharp reactions.

The DCI has since dismissed the claims as false and malicious, maintaining that investigations into the alleged fuel importation irregularities are being conducted professionally and in accordance with the law.
