The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has dismissed a viral poster claiming that super petrol, diesel, and kerosene prices were increased to over KSh 200 per litre.

The post, shared widely on Wednesday, April 1, suggested the hikes were due to rising international petroleum costs amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, including conflicts involving the US, Israel, and Iran, and disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz.

EPRA clarified that the notice circulating online was fake and emphasized that fuel prices are not adjusted mid-cycle. The regulator explained that maximum retail prices are officially announced on the 14th of each month for the following pricing period, in line with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No. 192 of 2022. The authority stressed that the claims circulating on social media had no legal or factual basis.

The agency urged the public to rely only on official communications for fuel price updates, warning against misinformation that could cause confusion in the market. EPRA reaffirmed that any adjustments to petroleum product prices follow established legal procedures and are announced formally, not via unverified online posts.
