The Cabinet Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy, William Kabogo, has urged African countries to seize the moment and lead the continent’s digital transformation by leveraging regional integration, strategic leadership, and effective governance.

Speaking during the official opening of the International Telecommunication Union Regional Development Forum for Africa (ITU-RDF AFR) in Nairobi, Kabogo emphasized that the time was ripe for Africa to harness its economic, cultural, and human resources to drive sustainable growth in the ICT sector.

He stated that closing the digital divide requires the continent to speak with one voice and take bold steps toward inclusive digital progress.

“This is the appropriate time for Africa to harness its potential to ensure inclusive digital transformation. We must speak with one voice and take our rightful place in shaping the global digital future,” Kabogo said during his keynote address.

The Cabinet Secretary acknowledged the role of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as a key United Nations agency driving global digital connectivity and innovation.

He commended the Communications Authority of Kenya for hosting the high-level forum, which has brought together ministers, regulators, policy makers, and stakeholders from across the continent.

Kabogo was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui.

The event was also attended by key figures in the sector, including the Secretary General of the African Telecommunication Union John Omo, the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, and the Executive Secretary of the East African Communications Organisation Dr. Ally Simba.

Ministers from Ghana, Lesotho, Nigeria, and Chad also participated in the forum, alongside the Director General of the Communications Authority David Mugonyi and the Chairperson of the Senate ICT Committee Senator Allan Chesang.
