Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia have parted ways with head coach Leonardo Neiva after a disappointing four-match winless run.

In a statement, the club confirmed they had invoked a contractual clause allowing them to terminate the Brazilian’s employment with immediate effect.

“The club appreciates Mr. Neiva for his dedication, hard work, and contributions to Gor Mahia during his tenure,” the statement read.

Adding “However, after a thorough evaluation and with the club’s long-term vision in mind, management has determined that a change in leadership is necessary.”

In the interim, club legend and former coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, alongside Michael Nam, will take over the coaching responsibilities as Gor Mahia begins its search for a permanent replacement.

“The club will now seek a new head coach who aligns with Gor Mahia’s values and vision, and who can bring fresh energy and tactical insight to the team,” the statement continued.

Neiva, who took over the managerial reins at the end of last season following Jonathan McKinstry’s departure to coach the Gambia national team, leaves the club with Gor Mahia sitting in 12th place in the league standings, with just eight points, though they have two games in hand.
