Trouble is brewing over the accountability of Sh50 million that was collected to aid protest victims with Hanifa one of the most vocal protesters caught in the midst of it.

Kenyans on social media are now up in arms after Hanifa claimed that the funds remaining in the kitty is not able to cater for medical bills and at the same time be distributed among all the victims.

In what has now been dubbed the #MchangaScandal, the Gen Zs are now demanding that Hanifa should publish names of all victims he has sent money including all mpesa transactions.

Further she should also list the total amount contributed and a breakdown of all money used and where it was send.

Kihato Erick on X said, “Hanifa ate your money in the name of buying Kenyan flags, the truth is that the flags were bought by Jimmy Wanjigi.”

Trouble started last month after the government announced that it had waived the bills for protesters who were at the hospital and yet Hanifa claimed that she had paid.

In another post on X, Hanifa had said that they have been paying hospital bills for those injured in other parts of the country and they await invoices from some who are receiving treatment.

Hanifa had been tasked with the responsibility of overseeing the fundraising campaign during the protest in the Mchanga platform.

Colleagues and contributors believed the funds were being handled with integrity and were confident that the money would reach those in need.

However, recent revelations have uncovered discrepancies in the accounting, leading to suspicions that a significant portion of the funds never made it to their intended destination.

"We’ve been paying for Moi referral hospital, We’re paying for Embu level 5 and other public hospitals as well. Even people in Mbagathi, we visited them and we are waiting for the invoices. I’m repeating, do not play politics with people’s lives," she said.

The fundraising campaign had been a great success, with generous donations pouring in from Kenyans, partners, and well-wishers.

The funds were intended to provide crucial assistance to those injured in the demonstrations, medical bills and partlt to offset the grief for those who had lost the loved ones

Patriot demanded for accountability from Hanifa stating “where is the money KNH patients were facilitated by the government, where is the money,”

Abuga Makori said that publications of all receipts attached with evidence should be the bare minimum. Otherwise, nobody shall condone outright thuggery and plunder of public resources. The corruption we've been talking is nothing other than this. Publish the list and transactions.

However, suspicions arose when discrepancies were some Kenyans on twitter are now claiming that the ‘treasurer’ has been perusing through the car yards and is looking to acquire a sh2.5 million car.

"Hanifa scroling every car yard aiming to buy a car worth 2.5 million," said taarifa leo

According to renown blogger, lord Abraham Mutai an estimates Sh35 million is yet to be accounted for. This has seen individuals express their disappointment and anger, emphasizing the betrayal felt by everyone who had contributed to the cause.

"More chaos so that we forget Hanifa has some Sh35 million of public donations that are un accounted for," said Mutai

3 men on X said ” Hanifa did not give the exact receipts za transactions za mchanga. should i tell you people ama mko tu sawa,” he noted.
