Former Deputy President and DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has used the outcome of the Emurua Dikirr by-election to reinforce what he describes as a steady expansion of his party’s national footprint, as political formations begin early groundwork for the 2027 General Election.

Addressing a National Executive Council meeting in Nairobi, Gachagua said the party’s performance in the by-election—where he claimed DCP finished second—was a sign of growing political influence beyond its expected regional base.

He said the result reflected increasing acceptance of the party among voters seeking alternative political leadership.

He further said the party has seen a sharp rise in interest from political aspirants across the country, particularly in Rift Valley and parts of Western Kenya, who are seeking to contest elective seats under the DCP ticket. According to him, this surge signals confidence in the party’s organisational direction.

The meeting also approved new party appointments drawn from several counties, which Gachagua said were aimed at strengthening coordination and expanding grassroots structures.

He added that the party had already begun preparations for upcoming by-elections, including Ol Kalou, through designated leadership teams.

Gachagua also cited what he described as significant growth in internal party membership registration, saying DCP is building a broad-based political movement anchored on grassroots mobilisation and aspirant recruitment.

He at the same time raised concerns about what he termed regulatory and administrative challenges facing political parties, particularly in the movement of members between political formations, calling for reforms to enhance fairness and openness in the political space.

The DCP leader urged political actors to maintain peace and avoid actions that could heighten tensions as early campaigns intensify, insisting that competition must remain democratic and ballot-based.
