Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that a new Mt Kenya regional party will be officially launched by May 2025.

Speaking during an interview with Kikuyu media stations, Gachagua clarified that despite ongoing speculation, the party is not being unveiled immediately but will have a grand launch event in Nairobi.

“We will not announce our party today as it’s being speculated. We will launch it by May in a colorful event in Nairobi. We will accommodate everyone, including those in the UDA party,” he said.

He emphasized that the party’s structures are already in place and that it will be an all-inclusive political outfit, welcoming leaders from across the country.

Gachagua also commended various leaders who have been instrumental in shaping the party, specifically mentioning Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba.

He further stated that he is willing to collaborate with all leaders from the region, including veteran politician Martha Karua, noting that unity in Mt Kenya politics is crucial.

“I will work with Karua among other leaders,” Gachagua affirmed.

Additionally, he expressed his intention to engage with other political figures, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, as he seeks to consolidate support for the new party.

The anticipated launch of the Mt Kenya party is expected to shake up the region’s political landscape as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
