Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for stronger air connectivity across Africa, saying easier movement of people, goods and opportunities will accelerate the continent’s economic transformation.
Mudavadi made the remarks in Nairobi after officially opening the 10th Aviation Africa Summit and Exhibition, which has brought together policymakers, investors, innovators and aviation industry leaders.
He said Kenya is investing in modern aviation infrastructure as it seeks to strengthen its position as a leading regional and global aviation hub.
Among the key investments is the modernisation of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, alongside improvements in digital technology, aviation safety and skills development.
Mudavadi also reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) and urged African countries to embrace more open skies across the continent.
According to the Prime Cabinet Secretary, improved air connectivity would help lower travel costs while boosting trade, tourism, investment and employment opportunities.
He said stronger aviation links would also support the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by making it easier for people and businesses to access markets across the continent.
Mudavadi further urged the aviation industry to prepare for emerging technologies and changing global trends.
He identified artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, sustainable aviation and automation as key areas that Africa must embrace as the sector evolves.
He also stressed the need to develop the next generation of aviation professionals, including pilots, engineers and other technical experts.
Mudavadi said a more connected African aviation network would create larger markets and open new opportunities for businesses and citizens.
