Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims that his recent political stand is fueled by revenge against President William Ruto, insisting that his push for reforms is anchored on good governance and service to the people.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Gachagua said his focus is to fight corruption, end extrajudicial killings, and ensure Kenyans enjoy access to essential services.
“I don’t think stopping abductions, saying no to extrajudicial killings, is revenge. It is humanity. Stopping corruption is not revenge; it’s morality. I am not interested in any revenge. I am interested in good governance, having a country that is working, a happy population,” Gachagua said.
The former DP maintained that his demand for President Ruto to vacate office is not personal but a “necessity” for the country.
“All I am saying is for that to happen, this man has to exit. It’s not revenge, it’s necessity. I am not a vengeful person, and I have nothing personal against William Ruto,” he stated.
Gachagua further said he is standing up for Kenyans despite “humiliation, persecution, and attacks,” arguing that opposition leader Raila Odinga has been compromised by his cooperation with the government while Parliament and Senate have been captured.
“Somebody must do it. Raila was compromised, Parliament and Senate have been captured. Someone has to stand up and say no,” he added.
The former DP also declared that he will contest for the presidency in the 2027 general elections, affirming his eligibility despite questions arising from his impeachment and pending court cases.
“I am a candidate to be president of the Republic of Kenya. I am qualified, and I have support. I am looking for more support, and I will be on the ballot as a candidate for President,” he said.
Gachagua argued that the Constitution guarantees every Kenyan the right to vie for office until all legal remedies are exhausted.
