Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua found himself in an awkward moment during his public engagement in the United States after being cornered by a fearless Gen Z.

Speaking during a town hall meeting in Baltimore, the young lady, identified as Valentine Wanjiru Githae, fearlessly told off Gachagua over his tribal rhetoric, saying that it undermines national unity.

Wanjiru, who is a representative of the youth-led 625 Movement, asked Gachagua to position himself as a national leader lest he is doomed to fail.

In her speech, the young lady called out Gachagua for addressing the attendees of the town hall meeting in Kikuyu.

She also disagreed with his previous remarks that Mt Kenya region residents are the “drivers of the Kenyan economy” due to their supposed hard work.

According to Wanjiru, such statements reinforce tribal entitlement and ignore the broader contributions of other Kenyan communities.

“We cannot say that people from other tribes are not hardworking. We have that sense of entitlement as Kikuyus, and it has to stop. If we position ourselves as Kikuyu, another tribe will also do that, and before we know it, we are back to the same problem," said Wanjiru.
