The National Police Service (NPS) has provided a significant update regarding the ongoing investigation into the tragic fatal shooting of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were.
Following continued analysis of earlier leads, NPS officers conducted a swift and coordinated operation that led to the arrest of four suspects. These individuals have been positively identified as having been present at the crime scene during the incident.
In the course of the operation, investigators also recovered critical evidence linked both to the crime and to the suspected perpetrators.
Authorities have confirmed that some of the arrested individuals are affiliated with known organised criminal groups, including the gang “Mjahidin,” which has been implicated in a string of armed robberies in Nairobi’s Eastlands area.
The NPS technical and investigative teams are working tirelessly to determine the motive behind Hon. Were’s killing and to ensure that all parties involved are brought to justice.
“As a service, we urge the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation,” the NPS said in a statement. “Unfounded comments or interference could impede the progress of the investigation.”
The NPS further cautioned individuals not directly involved in the matter against making statements that could compromise ongoing efforts.
The police service reiterated its commitment to a thorough and impartial investigation and to securing justice for Hon. Were’s family and the nation at large.
Additionally, the NPS continues to appeal to members of the public for any information that could aid the investigation.
Citizens are encouraged to report tips to the nearest police station or via the toll-free lines: 999, 112, or through the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline at 0800 722 203.
The National Police Service affirmed that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
