Residents of Gitugi Ward in Mathioya Constituency have taken matters into their own hands by constructing a makeshift bridge across River Mathioya, citing years of neglect and unfulfilled promises from government officials.
The previous metallic bridge adoration from a well wisher was swept away by heavy floods in 2020 since then residents say they’ve been abandoned by their leaders.
With the support of Njathi Miga Foundation residents say they have managed to acquire metal sheets for a more stable crossing albeit still temporary.
They are calling on elected leaders to do theirs and deliver a safe long lasting bridge for the community.
