Security agencies based in Isiolo County running a multi-agency operation have recovered 16 more illegal firearms last week making it 23 in total since they started the crackdown two weeks ago.
The authorities have confirmed that 655 goats and sheep were recovered in the recent operation, taking the total number of livestock returned to 2, 389.
Security officials at the Isiolo County Police Headquarters urged residents to cooperate with security officers so that the success of the operation is sustained.
However, the County Police Commander appealed that all the 23 illegal firearms were recovered within Isiolo County, hence the efficiency of security efforts in the targeted region.
Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the illegal arms and are currently in police custody awaiting prosecution.
Moreover, the commander advised that the ones in possession of illegal firearms should voluntarily surrender them while at the same time warning that the security agencies will take strong action against those breaking the law.
The operation is one of the security measures that had been taken to enhance security and curb banditry in the region.
