Former Laikipia North Member of Parliament, Mathew Lempurkel, has died following a tragic road accident that occurred earlier this week in Rongai.
Lempurkel sustained critical injuries in the crash and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.
Despite intensive medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Lempurkel served as Laikipia North MP from 2013 to 2017 and was widely known for his strong advocacy for the rights of the Maa community.
Throughout his tenure, he was a vocal and fearless champion of indigenous land rights and a tireless advocate for marginalized communities across northern Kenya.
His death has sparked an outpouring of grief, with former colleagues and community leaders remembering him as a courageous, principled leader who devoted his life to public service.
