The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced plans to take disciplinary action following violent clashes during the FKF Premier League match between Gor Mahia and Shabana on Sunday, March 4, at Gusii Stadium.
According to reports from police and three hospitals — Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, RAM Hospital, and Christamarianne Hospital — a total of 72 fans sustained injuries. No fatalities were reported.
The FKF urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified information, particularly rumours of deaths.
Tensions reportedly began hours before kick-off, stemming from disputes over seating arrangements.
Shabana, the home team, had been allocated 10 stands in the 12,000-capacity stadium, while Gor Mahia supporters were assigned only three.

The situation escalated when Gor Mahia fans attempted to occupy sections designated for Shabana, triggering confrontations.
The match was delayed for 42 minutes and ultimately ended with a 1-0 victory for Gor Mahia.
In a statement, FKF said: “We strongly condemn all forms of violence in our stadiums. Football must unite, not endanger lives. We are working with relevant authorities to determine the cause of the unrest, and disciplinary action will follow the conclusion of investigations.”
