A family in Kiambu County has petitioned the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) to investigate and shut down St. Bridgit Hospital over alleged medical negligence that they claim led to the death of a newborn.
Speaking through their lawyer Francis Gachie, the family alleges that Maureen Karani, who was admitted at the facility for delivery, lost her baby due to poor medical attention and neglect by the hospital staff. The family wants the hospital held accountable and penalized for the tragedy.
Karani, who is currently recuperating at home, further claims that she was forcefully discharged from the facility shortly after her case was highlighted in the media.“They failed my client when she needed urgent care. We are calling on the Council to take immediate action, including shutting down the hospital to prevent further suffering,” said lawyer Gachie.
However, St. Bridgit Hospital Administrator Isaac Ndung’u has refuted the allegations, insisting that the hospital followed proper procedures and that the incident is under investigation.“We deny any claims of negligence. The matter is under review and we are cooperating with the relevant authorities,” said Ndung’u.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council has yet to issue a public statement on the matter as pressure mounts for accountability and justice for the bereaved family.
