Tony Gachoka, a former political analyst and journalist, has announced his intention to run for Nairobi governor in the 2027 general election.
Gachoka made his announcement on the X social platform, stating, “It is official: Tony Gachoka will vie for Governor of Nairobi against Babu Owino and the ODM party.”
He confirmed that he would run under the banner of the DAP-K party, led by Eugene Wamalwa. “I will vie on a DAP-K party ticket. Many thanks to my age mate Eugene Wamalwa for the ticket! God be with you and Kalonzo. I’ve just informed both Kalonzo and Okiya Omtatah. Let’s go Nairobi,” Gachoka tweeted.
Previously, Gachoka hosted the popular Point Blank show on KTN News, where he engaged with prominent political figures and personalities on current issues. He also served as an aide to Raila Odinga, the ODM leader and former prime minister.
After a period of relative silence following the end of his show, Gachoka made a return to the public spotlight by actively challenging the controversial deals between the Kenyan government and the Adani Group. He joined Eugene Wamalwa and Kalonzo Musyoka in filing legal challenges against the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreements, particularly those involving the renovation and operation of key infrastructure, including Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), by the Indian conglomerate.
Incumbent Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja is expected to seek re-election in the upcoming vote.
