Sports Disputes Tribunal has temporarily blocked the removal of Hussein Mohamed as president of Football Kenya Federation (FKF), offering him short-term relief as a legal battle unfolds. The tribunal certified the matter as urgent on April 27, 2026, issuing an injunction to stop the implementation of resolutions passed on April 24 that threatened his leadership. Deputy chairperson Allan Mola Owinyi noted the urgency and national significance of the dispute.
The case was filed by FKF official Ahmed Abdi Mohamed, who submitted a claim alongside supporting documents. The tribunal directed that all parties be served by April 29, with responses due by May 4, setting the stage for an expedited hearing process. A three-member panel will handle the matter, with oral submissions expected during the mention scheduled for May 5 via Microsoft Teams.
Meanwhile, FIFA has stepped in, seeking detailed documentation on how the contested decisions were reached, including proof of quorum, voting records, and whether due process was followed. The unfolding dispute has raised concern within the football community, with fears it could affect Kenya’s role in hosting the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2027 alongside regional partners.
