The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has officially named Engineer Luka Kipchumba Kimeli as the new Director General, effective from 17th February 2023.
Engineer Kimeli has been performing the duties of the position for some time now, filling the position after the former Director General, Kungu Ndungu, left the agency last year. Engineer Ndungu had taken the position in 2021 when the former Director General, Peter Mundinia, completed his term.
The announcement of the appointment was made by the KeNHA Board, stating it was the outcome of the competitive recruitment process undertaken as required under the Kenya Roads Act and other relevant procedures.
Engineer Kimeli’s qualifications for the job included his long experience of over 27 years developing and managing road infrastructure as well as his experience working in the public sector.
This appointment comes at a time when the development of new roads across the country is ongoing. Among the notable developments is the JKIA – James Gichuru Road development and upgrade, which forms part of the upgrade of the highway.
The upgrade of the Rironi – Mau Summit highway is another notable development aimed at improving the experience of driving on the highway as well as improving the experience driving along the Northern Corridor.
The KeNHA plays a big role in ensuring the development and upgrade of the country’s national highways, which form the backbone of the movement of goods and people.
