The Deputy Chief of Staff, Performance and Delivery Management in the Executive Office of the President, Eliud Owalo, has commended the Maragua Ridge Irrigation Project as a transformative initiative set to uplift farmers in Murang’a County.

Owalo made these remarks during an inspection tour of key national development projects in the region, accompanied by officers from the Government Delivery Unit (GDU).The Ksh 312 million Maragua Ridge Irrigation Project, spearheaded by the National Irrigation Authority, is 90 percent complete and is expected to significantly enhance agricultural productivity.

Covering 400 acres in Kamahuha, Maragua Constituency, the project directly benefits 848 farmers and has already created over 12,700 job opportunities, boosting the local economy. Owalo urged farmers to organize themselves effectively to maximize government support.

As part of the tour, Owalo also visited the Makuyu Affordable Housing Project, a Ksh 1.8 billion initiative under the State Department for Housing and Urban Development. Launched just three weeks ago, the project aims to construct 764 housing units, addressing the increasing demand for affordable housing while creating job opportunities for local youth.

Additionally, he inspected the Makenji Affordable Housing Project in Kandara, where construction is 49 percent complete. The Ksh 491.5 million development will provide 220 housing units, further contributing to the government’s national housing agenda.Owalo emphasized that these projects are not only reshaping Murang’a County but also delivering long-term socio-economic benefits to its residents.

The government remains committed to enhancing food security, creating employment opportunities, and improving access to affordable housing, aligning with President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
