Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has called for the immediate arrest of a teacher at Alliance Girls High School, accused of sexually grooming students.

Speaking during a thanksgiving event at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School in Nandi County, Bitok confirmed that the Ministry of Education had engaged law enforcement and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to take action against the teacher.

“That teacher is going to be punished. We have talked to TSC and all the other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested,” Bitok said.

The comments came days after an investigation aired by Africa Uncensored unveiled claims against the long-serving teacher, who reportedly used his leadership role in the school’s Christian Union to groom and exploit vulnerable students.

Bitok emphasised that the government would not tolerate any form of abuse in schools, warning that the crackdown on such misconduct would not be limited to one institution.

“We are not going to condone any behaviour where teachers or any other stakeholder in schools take advantage of our children,” he added.

The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) issued a statement on July 8 demanding immediate disciplinary and legal action against the teacher and the school’s administration.

“We demand that the Ministry of Education hold the school accountable for its failure to safeguard students from harm,” FIDA Chairperson Christine Kungu said.

Kungu further urged the ministry to instruct all schools across the country to implement mechanisms for managing sexual and gender-based violence in schools.

A group of former students of Alliance Girls High School conducted a peaceful protest on Thursday morning, demanding justice to the victim learners as well as the firing of the teacher.
