Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly condemned the recent wave of demonstrations that left a trail of destruction and claimed lives across the country, accusing unnamed individuals he described as “lords of violence” of masterminding the unrest.

Speaking during the official launch of the Tarasaa Sub-County in Garsen Constituency, Tana River County, Murkomen said the government would not hesitate to take firm action against those he alleged were plotting to destabilize the country, warning that their actions bordered on an attempted coup.“The country is facing a very serious threat orchestrated by individuals who are hell-bent on plunging Kenya into chaos. We will not allow this nation to be hijacked by those who thrive on bloodshed and anarchy,” Murkomen stated.

He further urged Kenyans to refrain from targeting police officers, who he said were executing their mandate under difficult circumstances to restore law and order.”It is unbelievable that in particular areas of the country, some political actors organised goons to invade police stations, destroy public and private properties. Police are our children’s, siblings and friends, let’s stay in peace with them.” Murkomen stated

The CS also cautioned against making the issue tribal, calling for the public to co-exist peacefully and work with police officers. “Let us not allow the politics of division and ethnicity to take root. We are one people, and unity is our strength,” he remarked.

Murkomen revealed progress in the ongoing investigation into attacks on security installations, disclosing that two of the five firearms stolen from the Dagoretti Police Station during the protests had been recovered.

The visit to Tana River County was part of the government’s efforts to strengthen administrative structures and security at the grassroots, with the elevation of Tarasaa to Sub-County status seen as a step toward improved service delivery and governance.
