The inaugural East Africa Region Global Health Security Summit opened today in Mombasa, bringing together regional leaders and health experts to tackle pressing health security challenges.

President William Ruto, represented by Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, underscored the need for stronger healthcare systems, regional cooperation, and investment in local vaccine production.

“We must build resilient health systems, collaborate across borders, and prioritize local manufacturing to ensure we’re prepared for future health threats,” the President stated.

He also highlighted the role of a well-trained healthcare workforce and the importance of private sector and community involvement in strengthening health security.

Running until January 30, the summit aims to develop actionable strategies to enhance health security in East Africa through collaboration, innovation, and investment.
