Kenya, Morocco Strengthen Health Cooperation During First Lady’s Visit

Kenya and Morocco are strengthening cooperation in healthcare, with a focus on specialised medical services, skills transfer and improving access to quality care.

Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga accompanied First Lady Rachel Ruto during her official visit to Morocco, where she held engagements aimed at advancing the two countries’ shared health priorities.

The First Lady was received in Rabat by Princess Lalla Asmaa, following her visit to Kenya in November 2025.

The latest engagement builds on the longstanding partnership between Kenya and Morocco, particularly in the treatment and care of children with hearing impairments.

Focus on cochlear implantation

The partnership has supported specialised training for Kenyan health professionals in cochlear implantation and related services.

Doctors and other health professionals from Kenyatta National Hospital, Kenyatta University Teaching, Research and Referral Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and MP Shah Hospital have received training through the cooperation.

The training is expected to strengthen Kenya’s capacity to provide specialised hearing care locally.

Implantation of the cochlea is a specific procedure that aims at helping individuals suffering from serious problems with their hearing.

Specialist training as well as skills development in Kenya in healthcare sector falls under the Kenya-Morocco partnership for health.

Based on 11 agreements

The visit follows 11 Memorandums of Understanding signed between Kenya and Morocco in April 2026.

The agreements cover several areas, including health, local manufacturing and specialist training.

The government said the cooperation is part of efforts to build Kenya’s healthcare capacity while expanding access to specialised services.

It added that partnerships with other countries will continue to support skills transfer, strengthen specialised healthcare and improve the quality of services available to Kenyans.
