On Saturday, President William Ruto launched several mega development projects in Vihiga County, where he promised to speed up programs on infrastructural development, education, housing, and health across the region.

At Ebukanga in Emuhaya the President flagged off the Vihiga County Last Mile Electricity Programme, which will connect more than 15,000 households to the national grid at a cost of KSh 1.06 billion.

He also launched the construction of student hostels at Ebukanga Technical and Vocational College; a 340-bed capacity facility that would be ready in ten months’ time. This, the government has already set aside KSh 145 million.

Highways to be Completed

President Ruto announced that the Maseno–Kombewa–Kalandini Road will be completed within two months.

He said funds have also been released for ongoing works on several key roads, including Giswambayi–Shamakhokho–Kaimosi–Museno, Mbale–Wemilabi–Luanda, Stendkisa–Luanda, and Chavakali–Eregi–Malinya roads.

During the visit, the President launched the Kaimosi–Shamakhokho Road, a KSh 1.5 billion project, expected to be complete before 2027.

Focus on Education and Training

Dr. Ruto further added that the government is committed to improving learning conditions through construction of 4,500 new hostel spaces across institutions in the county, including Ebukanga Technical College and Kaimosi University.

He also gave KSh 5 million to Bunyore Teachers Training College to buy a bus and promised KSh 10 million towards a new tuition block at Emusire High School.

Modern Markets and Housing Projects

He announced that KSh 2 billion has been allocated to build 10 new modern markets across Vihiga County.

The cost of putting up Esibuye and Esirulo markets will be KSh 60 million each, Luanda Market KSh 300 million, while Mbale Market will cost KSh 250 million.

The government will also invest KSh 6 billion in Affordable Housing Units, both within the county and in Luanda and Hamisi, comprising 2,000 units and 400 units, respectively.

Stadium, Land, and Health

The President further added that a modern stadium will be constructed in Vihiga at a cost of KSh 900 million, whose groundbreaking is set to take place in January 2026.

He also assured the Shaviringa people that they will soon get title deeds for the land they have been living on for years. Already, Cabinet has approved the allocation pending parliamentary approval.

Dr. Ruto went ahead to ask locals to register with the Social Health Authority and report all health facilities that charge for primary healthcare services, which are meant to be free under the Universal Health Coverage programme.
