Kenya and Burundi have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with trade, investment and the free movement of people and goods remaining key areas of cooperation within the East African Community (EAC).
UDA Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan hosted Burundi’s ruling CNDD-FDD Secretary General Révérien Ndikuriyo at UDA Headquarters, Hustler Plaza, where the two leaders discussed ways of deepening cooperation between their political parties.
The parties agreed to strengthen collaboration and share experiences on party building, while supporting closer relations between Kenya and Burundi.
Ndikuriyo expressed gratitude for Kenya’s hospitality towards Burundian citizens living and working in the country.
The meeting also addressed the situation of undocumented Burundian nationals in Kenya. Hassan assured Ndikuriyo that the government is committed to regularising their stay, with the necessary work permits expected to be issued within 90 days.
The UDA Secretary General said regional integration anchored on the free movement of people and goods remains central to Kenya’s engagement with neighbouring countries.
Burundi’s Ambassador to Kenya, Evelyne Habonimana, accompanied Ndikuriyo during the meeting, which was also attended by senior UDA officials.
