The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has pledged that its officers will be on the ground during the next police recruitment exercise to ensure that bribery, favoritism and other forms of malpractices that have characterized the process in previous years will not be given a chance.
By a press release communicated by the Commission’s Western Region Manager Eric Ngumbi, EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud, said the organisation will not relent in its effort to see that the recruitment is carried out in a transparent and fair manner.
While addressing the Bungoma County Assembly staff during an anti-corruption sensitization forum, Ngumbi said the commission staff will be out to ensure that no one will dare manipulate the exercise for selfish reasons.
“The EACC will be in the forefront of the monitoring activities during the police recruitment to be able to spot and nip in the bud those that are oriented to corruption and favoritism,” he remarked.
Mohamud also appealed to parents and guardians not to succumb to the temptation of bribing in order to get slots for their children and warned that perpetrators of illegal acts will be apprehended and dealt with accordingly.
“It is the EACC’s advice to all the stakeholders to desist from bribery. Every wrongdoer caught will have to face justice,” he said.
This initiative is a great relief to the public as regards the numerous scandals that have rocked the past recruitment exercises in which the EACC is now loudly committing itself to ensuring police recruitment is Based on merit and that the community regains confidence in the process.
