The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has confirmed that no criminal investigations are currently underway against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, despite ongoing corruption allegations raised in Parliament.
EACC Deputy CEO Abdi Mohamud made this announcement during a recent session, seeking to clarify the status of inquiries concerning the Deputy President.
“We have not investigated any companies linked to the DP, nor have we pursued any criminal matter involving him,” Mohamud stated, addressing concerns raised by lawmakers regarding Gachagua’s potential involvement in corruption cases.
The Deputy CEO also touched on the Kemsa tender scandal, acknowledging significant mismanagement within the organization.
He hinted at the possibility of external influences affecting the handling of the tender, suggesting that “there must have been pressure from somewhere.” Mohamud further stated, “Either the officers were bribed, or there was external pressure,” indicating the complexities surrounding the allegations.
This clarification from the EACC comes amidst heightened scrutiny of public officials and a push for accountability in government operations.
