The fate of Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Justin Muturi, hangs in the balance after his Democratic Party (DP) formally initiated its exit from the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

In a letter addressed to the coalition leadership, DP Secretary-General Jacob Haji and National Chairman Essau Kioni cited “prevailing political developments” as the reason behind their departure.

“Kindly take notice that our stay in the Kenya Kwanza coalition is no longer tenable due to prevailing political developments. The DP Party hereby gives a 30-day notice to exit the coalition, as stipulated in Termination Clause 8 of the coalition agreement. This notice is effective from the date of this letter,” the statement read.

The move comes shortly after Muturi openly castigated the government over the abduction of his son and the rising cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

Addressing few months ago, Muturi did not hold back his criticism, calling for urgent action to address the crisis.

‘One of the things we had accused the past regime was the issue of abductions and forced disappearances. Today, there have been abductions and forced deaths mainly targeting the youth,” he said.

”My son was personally abducted and disappeared making us anxious and at that time, I was the Attorney General of Kenya and a member of the National Security Council,” he added.
