The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has opposed bail for seven people charged with the murder of psychiatrist Dr Victoria Mutiso.
In submissions before Justice Alexander Muteti, the prosecution urged the court to deny the accused bail, citing concerns over the safety of witnesses and their families, as well as the integrity of ongoing investigations and the trial.
The prosecution team, led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jalson Makori, said the accused allegedly had the means and influence to interfere with the case if released.
Prosecutors further told the court that the accused allegedly operated through a coordinated network involving surveillance, intelligence gathering, procurement of criminal implements, tactical execution, concealment, and financial and logistical support before, during and after the alleged offence.
The seven accused are Rose Mbithe Mulwa, her children Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, police officers Elijah Kibelion Kimono and Collins Bett, Martim Kimutai and Pius Muiru Mbugua.
They have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecution, the seven, jointly with others not before the court, allegedly murdered Dr Mutiso at about 9:30am on July 29, 2026, along Mawensi Road in Kilimani Sub-County.
The court will determine the bail application after considering the prosecution’s objections and submissions from the defence.
