Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua visited Kieni, Nyeri County today to inspect the ongoing development projects, including the long-awaited construction of a key road that has been stalled for six years. In his remarks, Gachagua emphasized the government’s commitment to revitalizing the road infrastructure in the region, following years of financial challenges that delayed progress.

“I have been sent here by President William Ruto to inspect the ongoing development projects in Kieni, including the construction of this road, which has been at a standstill since 2019 due to financial constraints,” Gachagua explained. “Today, I bring good news—thanks to President Ruto’s efforts to stabilize the economy, we now have the funds to not only restart this road but to complete all stalled roads in Nyeri County and across the nation.”

The Deputy President announced that the government has allocated Sh17 billion for the construction and completion of 12 roads in Nyeri County. This funding will ensure that these projects, which have been languishing for years, will now be fully financed and closely monitored for timely completion. The revitalization of these road projects is part of a larger national effort to improve infrastructure and stimulate local economies.

The Deputy President also highlighted the ongoing electrification projects across the country, noting that the number of Kenyans with access to electricity has grown significantly. “We have increased the number of Kenyans with electricity from 2.7 million in 2013 to 9 million in 2025. However, there are still more areas in need of connection, which is why we have allocated funds to connect an additional 1 million Kenyans in the next 20 months,” Gachagua said.

Beyond roads and electricity, Gachagua outlined several other key projects aimed at boosting economic growth and improving livelihoods in Nyeri County and beyond. “We are constructing 400 new markets nationwide, including several in Nyeri County. I will personally inspect those that are underway, and once complete, President Ruto will be here to officially launch them,” he revealed.

The Deputy President also touched on the ongoing construction of a County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Nyeri. This project, once completed, will serve as a key hub for value addition of farm produce, benefiting local farmers with better returns for their crops.

Additionally, Gachagua highlighted the government’s affordable housing program, which has created thousands of job opportunities for young Kenyans. “Our affordable housing initiative has already provided employment for between 160,000 and 200,000 workers, contributing to the growth of the housing and construction sectors,” he said.

Addressing concerns about the political climate, Gachagua reiterated that the government’s primary focus remains on development and public service. “We are not interested in political squabbles. Our focus is on expanding roads, water, electricity, and creating jobs. Engaging in politics at this time would only hinder service delivery and cause unnecessary suffering for the people,” he stated.

With a commitment to bringing positive change, Gachagua assured the people of Kieni and Nyeri County that, in the next three years, significant progress would be made in transforming the region and the entire country.

“As we look forward to a brighter future, the President and our government are focused on solutions that improve the lives of Kenyans,” Gachagua concluded.
