Outspoken Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has called on President William Ruto to consider rejoining the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and seek re-election in 2027 under the party’s ticket.

Ruto, who was elected in 2022 under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), is widely expected to seek a second term on the same party’s ticket. However, Alai argues that ODM would be a more viable platform for the president.

The MCA went further, urging Ruto to dissolve UDA and lead his supporters back to ODM, where he was once a key figure.

“We will disband UDA and have all UDA members register as ODM members. President Ruto must defend his seat through ODM,” Alai declared.

His remarks come amid growing political cooperation between Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, once fierce rivals. The two have recently set aside their differences, with Ruto backing Raila’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship earlier this year.

Analysts suggest the newfound alliance could be part of a broader strategy to secure Raila’s support for Ruto’s 2027 re-election campaign.

Speaking at the burial of Raila’s aide, George Oduor, on Saturday, Ruto praised the former Prime Minister for his role in stabilizing the country amid recent youth-led protests.

“I want to thank my elder brother, Raila Odinga. We have come a long way,” Ruto said. “When Baba stood with me, it was not about his interests but Kenya’s greater good. History will judge him fairly.”

The president’s warm words toward Raila have fueled speculation about a potential political realignment ahead of the next election. Alai’s proposal, though bold, underscores the shifting dynamics in Kenya’s political landscape.

Whether Ruto will entertain the idea of an ODM comeback remains uncertain, but the debate signals intriguing possibilities for the 2027 race.
