Attorneys representing Sean “Diddy” Combs pushed back against key testimony from Casandra Ventura — the singer known professionally as Cassie — following two intense days of her statements in the ongoing sex trafficking trial against the music mogul.
Ventura’s testimony has been central to the case, as she accused Combs of rape, physical abuse, and coercing her into participating in drug-fueled sex parties throughout their decade-long relationship. Her vivid and painful accounts have become a focal point of the prosecution’s argument but have also drawn intense scrutiny from the defense.
On Thursday, Combs’s defense attorney, Anna Estevao, worked to cast doubt on Ventura’s reliability by suggesting that addiction issues may have clouded her perception of events. Estevao pointed to shared struggles with opioid use between the two, raising questions about whether substance abuse contributed to the volatile nature of their relationship.
Ventura acknowledged that both she and Combs were addicted to opioids at various points, experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms during their time together. Estevao also questioned the influence of MDMA in one incident from 2016, when Ventura alleged she was assaulted in a Los Angeles-area hotel after taking the drug. When asked if the MDMA used that night might have been a “bad batch,” Ventura said she couldn’t say for certain.
The day’s proceedings largely revolved around examining text message exchanges between the former couple, as the defense sought to portray a more nuanced and possibly mutual dysfunction in their relationship.
As the trial progresses, Ventura’s credibility is expected to remain a battleground for both sides, with her detailed testimony standing as a cornerstone of the case against Combs.
