Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has held bilateral talks with officials from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) aimed at strengthening regional health cooperation and advancing health security frameworks across the continent.
The meeting brought together Dr. Raji Tajudeen, representing Africa CDC Director General Dr. Jean Kaseya, and Dr. Lul Riek, Special Representative and Regional Advisor for the Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre, where discussions reaffirmed commitment to the Africa CDC agenda and enhanced regional partnerships.
“Since 2017, Kenya has hosted the Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre, coordinating efforts across 14 member states, a role that underscores our leadership in regional preparedness and response,”Duale said .
Kenya, which has hosted the Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre since 2017, was recognized for its central role in coordinating health preparedness and response efforts across 14 member states in the region.
The discussions focused on building resilient and self-sufficient health systems, aligned with the government’s vision on strengthening local manufacturing of health products as a key pillar of health security.
Key areas of focus included emergency preparedness, diagnostics, and the local production of essential medical supplies, as part of efforts to improve regional health resilience.
The meeting also reviewed progress toward finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding on land allocation and financial support for the establishment of the regional centre.
Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni also attended the meeting.
