The Deputy Chief of DCI’s Investigations Bureau Mr Paul Wachira has called upon criminal investigators in the Eastern region to embrace multi-agency cooperation and forensic technologies in handling cases of homicide and other serious crimes as a sure way of delivering legal justice to victims and culprits.
Addressing a class of stakeholders in the Criminal Justice System at the Meru National Polytechnic earlier today, Mr Wachira noted that joint trainings for actors in the CJS was a clear indicator of visionary leadership and quality service delivery in the region.
The training has brought together hundreds of officers from the NPS, Judiciary, ODPP, IPOA and NGAO from the counties of Meru, Tharaka Nithi and Isiolo, in a capacity building initiative aimed at enhancing their skills in proper Crime Scene Management and Homicide investigation.
The training is being facilitated by a select team of seasoned homicide detectives and crime scene investigators, with a bias on how the various stakeholders can build synergy for successful investigations and prosecutions.
“Recent times have recorded a number of horrendous incidents, sending shockwaves across the country and a trail of grief to affected kin. I call upon you to foster multi-agency cooperation in addressing these menace. You can only be as strong as the weakest amongst you,” added Mr Wachira.
The Assistant Inspector General also highlighted the essence of safeguarding the integrity of crime scenes by first responders, noting that losing or tampering with exhibits at the scenes often laid a threshold for unserved justice and serious aggression towards CJS actors.
“It is my assurance to you that the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations is in full support of this training, and I call upon you to continue organizing more trainings for these officers even in much smaller cells, given the pace of advancements in technology and other societal dynamics,” said Mr Wachira who represented the Director DCI.
Among those present during the opening of the training were Meru National Polytechnic Deputy Principal Ms. Lucy Kimathi, Regional Criminal Investigations Officer Mr. Michael Sang’, County Commissioner, Meru County Criminal Investigations Officer Mr Samwel Bett, ODPP Meru Head Mr Eubius Omooria among others.
